How to Stay Warm While Snowmobiling

How to Stay Warm While SnowmobilingSnowmobiling can be and is a very fun sport… as long as you are warm. Once your fingers feel like icicles and your nose has been bitten by Jack Frost, it is hard to consider anything to be fun. Luckily there are some ways that you can stay warm while snowmobiling.

1. The most important thing that you can do is to wear layers. You want to start with a nice thin thermal layer close to your skin. This layer should be warm, breathable, and wicking. Your next layers should be shirts, sweaters, and/or fleeces – preferably these will also be made from technical fabrics – you do not want cotton close to your skin; it can actually make you fell colder if you sweat in it. The great thing about layers is that you can remove them if you get to warm.
2. Be sure to wear a windproof outer layer. It can get pretty nippy, even if you have a windshield on your snowmobile.
3. If your helmet does not have a face shield, make sure that you have snowmobile goggles – they protect your face from debris and keep it much warmer.
4. Be sure to pack some extra clothes. It is not like you have to carry them on your back, you are on a machine, for heaven’s sake! You can have some extra warm layers in case you get cold or wet.
5. Make sure that you cover your neck while snowmobiling (but not a scarf – it could get tangled in the moving parts of your snowmobile). Sometimes your neck gets neglected, but is the part of you that is often most directly hit by the wind – the rest of your body is protected by your windshield and your helmet.
6. It is also a good idea to get heated grips for your snowmobile. If your handlebars are warm, your hands will feel so much nicer – they will not become permanently frozen into “C” shapes. Still wear good gloves or mittens, though.
7. Bring along some snacks and maybe even a hot drink.

Follow this guide to staying warm to while snowmobiling and you are certain to beat the cold. Remember to have fun while out there in the snow. Snowmobiling is supposed to be fun, not just cold.
