If
you know anything about Ski-Doo snowmobiles, you have most definitely
heard of their famous Rotax engines, but you may not know much more
about them other than they are great engines.
Joseph-Armand Bombardier is the inventor of the Ski-Doo snowmobiles.
Back in the 1960’s, Joseph-Armand Bombardier was looking all
around the globe for a company that would be able to make an engine
that was both powerful and lightweight and very reliable to power
his great Ski-Doo snowmobiles.
The country that Bombardier ended up finding that could meet his
specific demands was way off in Gunskirchen, Austria. Since then,
Rotax engines are the standard engine in Ski-Doo snowmobiles. In
fact, Rotax engines have been the standard engine in Ski-Doo snowmobiles
since way back in 1962. Of course, this is not to say that the Rotax
engines have not evolved and become even better, just as Ski-Doo
snowmobiles have. Rotax engines most definitely have evolved.
In 1970, Bombardier bought Rotax. Now nearly every single Ski-Doo
snowmobile and watercraft and sport boat and Bombardier ATV features
one of the great and famous Rotax engines. Of course, Bombardier
is not the only company that needs Rotax to survive. Rotax does
not just manufacturer sophisticated engines for Ski-Doo snowmobiles
and other vehicles, it also designs and manufactures lightweight
engines for ultralight aircraft, BMW and Aprilia motorcycles, Rotax
Max karts, and more.
All said and done, you can count on a Rotax engine. And you most
certainly can count on a Ski-Doo snowmobile.
