So, if you are looking for a ski jacket, that means that you have
moved beyond the land of the one-piece snowsuits. There is certainly
nothing wrong with one-piece. There are most definitely many wonderful
snow bunnies out there that still wear one-pieces. There are many
excellent skiers, in fact, that prefer a one-piece ski suit instead
of a two-piece. After all, when wearing a one-piece snowsuit, you
do not have to worry about snow going up your ski jacket or down
your ski pants during an awesome fall.
All in all, though, a ski jacket paired with a pair of ski pants
is going to be your most versatile choice. If you are wearing a
ski jacket, you can concentrate on what layers to wear underneath
to keep you most comfortable. If you get too hot, you can simply
remove a layer. You can even remove your ski jacket. If you were
wearing a one-piece ski suit, you will be hard-pressed to remove
the upper part.
Ski jackets can be worn with a few base-layers underneath like
a thermal shirt, a sweater, and a fleece, or a ski jacket can be
worn with just one layer underneath when it is warmer outside. There
are also ski jackets that have vents to keep you extra cool on those
warmer days or those days that you are just working extra hard.
Ski jacket vents are sometimes in the armpits, sometimes they are
in the back.
Ski jackets also often have hoods. Ski jacket hoods are great protection
during those extra windy or extra cold days. A ski jacket hood really
traps the warmth in around your head. When picking out a ski jacket
with a hood, make sure that the hood does not restrict your peripheral
vision.
Many ski jackets also have powder skirts. A powder skirt is an
extra, tighter lining underneath the rest of you jacket that keeps
the snow from going up and into your skivvies!
You can also find ski jackets with a variety of pockets, special
waterproof fabrics, and many other features. Just remember: when
looking for the best ski jacket for yourself, it is not only about
finding a great color – it is about finding something that
is comfortable and will not restrict you as you are tearing down
the mountain.
