Snowboard
jackets are must-haves for any people that are planning on hitting
the slopes and tearing it up on their snowboards. But will just
any snowboard jacket do? Certainly not. There are many different
features in, colors of, and styles of snowboard jackets to choose
from, but before trying to tackle which snowboard jacket looks best
on you or matches your snowboard the best, there are three major
things you want to make sure your snowboard jacket has. You need
your snowboard jacket to be waterproof, windproof, and breathable.
Sure, one of the main things that you may be looking for in a snowboard
jacket is whether or not it has a media pocket to safely hold your
MP3 player while you are riding through the terrain park. This feature
may keep you happy for a little while, but it will certainly not
keep you warm. The main purpose of a snowboard jacket is to keep
you warm, dry, and comfortable. It is only secondary that it keeps
you looking good and stylish.
A snowboard jacket is considered waterproof if it can bear a water
column of 120-150 cm. To test this, a tube is placed on a piece
of fabric and then filled with water until water droplets form on
the other side of the tested fabric. Then the number of centimeters
in the tube is measured – if it is at least 120-150 cm, the
snowboard jacket fabric is deemed waterproof. Of course, just because
a snowboard jacket is made from waterproof fabric does not meant
hat the snowboard jacket is waterproof – water could leak
in through uncovered zippers and untaped seams. Only if the construction
of the snowboard jacket also does not deemed fully waterproof.
It is also important that your snowboard jacket is windproof –
you want to be able to race down the mountain and still stay warm
and comfortable. If a snowboard jacket is considered waterproof,
it is also considered windproof.
The last, but equally important, quality that you need to look
for in your snowboard jacket is breathability. While you are out
working out on the slopes, you are going to be losing a lot of liquid
through your skin. Your snowboard jacket needs to be able release
that moisture, it needs to be able to breathe through the fabric
itself. There are many breathable fabrics out there like cotton,
but cotton is certainly not waterproof. The trick is making a fabric
for you snowboard jacket that is both waterproof and breathable.
Once you have found a snowboard jacket that is breathable, waterproof,
and windproof, then you can start deciding on color, style and features.
Find for yourself the perfect snowboard jacket.
