Vintage Snowmobiles
Many
clubs both in the United States and Canada are devoted to the racing,
restoration and collection of vintage snowmobiles. While this is
definitely the arena for an enthusiast, many people can become engaged
in the activity!
Vintage snowmobiles are actually a different category from antique
and classic snowmobiles, according to Bill Donner of the Antique
and Classic Snowmobile Club of Canada, as well as the Antique Snowmobile
Club of America.
According to Canda’s club, the designations of old sleds
are as follows:
Antique: Any snowmobile of the model year 1967 or earlier. This
includes automobile conversions, prototypes and those built from
home. Actually, this category generally recognizes any attempt by
anyone to produce a motorized snow vehicle during the early years.
Vintage Snowmobiles and racers: Any factory build, factory modified,
factory authorized built, or factory authorize modified snowmobile
from the year 1981 or earlier. These are designed and produced mostly
for organized racing competition.
Classic: Factory build consumer snowmobiles of the sport/muscle
type and those of the luxury/touring type for Model years 1968 to
1977 are candidates for consideration.
Special interest: All factory built snowmobiles that were produced
from 1968 to 1977, and that do not qualify as one of the classic
or vintage snowmobiles.
USA designations for antique and vintage snowmobiles are as follows:
Antique: A sled from 1968 or older.
Vintage: A model from 1969 or newer.
