Winter Safety
Making
it through the season happy, healthy and safe is top priority! No
matter what activities, parties, holiday vacations, or sports you
find yourself engaged in this year, remember that winter safety
should always be practiced. That way you can move on to spring with
no broken legs or serious conditions.
Here are some winter safety tips that we have gathered for the
sake of everyone in your family.
· Check weather reports daily and heed precautions and advisories.
You may want to consider avoiding outdoor activities if weather
warnings suggest a severe wind chill or severely low temperatures.
· Drive carefully, slow and deliberate, through snow and
ice!
· Be aware of avalanche warnings.
· Review the symptoms and treatments for hypothermia, snow
blindness and frostbite.
· Keep in mind that you should practice sun safety even
in the winter. Wear sunglasses and sunscreen on your face, especially
while on the slopes.
· Dress in layers. That way you can stay warm and dry while
enjoying all your outdoor winter activities.
· When you are not wearing a helmet, winter safety is best
observed while wearing a hat and neck guard. Keep your ears covered
as well!
· Wear clothing that is comfortable. Tight attire will restrict
circulation and may increase changes in frostbite.
· Wear brightly colored clothes, to be seen easier.
· Try to maintain healthy eating and sleeping habits throughout
the season.
· Never bury anyone in the snow, to avoid the risk of suffocation.
And teach your children not to build tunnels in the snow for the
same reason.
