It
can be tough planning all aspects of enjoyable winter vacations.
But once you break down the process, write out your check list,
and give yourself enough time to complete each task, you will be
sure to remember everything (almost!) and have fun doing so.
Planning winter vacations:
Choose a destination with plenty of off-slope activities. Even the
kids in the family who love to ski or board, will appreciate other
diversions throughout the vacation. And non-skiers or boarders especially
need a place that caters to other interests as well. You will do
best to find a location that includes both outdoor (sledding, tubing,
ice skating, snowshoeing) and indoor fun (movies, museums, arcades,
shopping malls).
Consider what type of lodging works best for your family. Some
people must have a kitchen, to warm and prepare meals. Others are
fine eating out every snack and meal of the day! The closer that
your lodging is to the slopes, or the main entertainment, the better.
In winter vacations, you will appreciate closer proximity and no
shuttle busses, long treks through the slushy parking lot, or other
such nuisances!
Things to include in your suitcase for winter vacations, that you
might not realize you need until you get there:
· Walkie talkies. Keep in touch with the kids throughout
the day on two-way radios.
· Nightlight
· Earplugs. Slopeside condos can be quite loud at night because
of snow grooming or making machines.
· Boot and glove dryers. Or at least a hair dryer. But make
sure to keep it far away from the item for proper ventilation.
· Snow day diversions: Even though winter vacations are typically
outdoor oriented, you will encounter some times when you simply
want to lay down and relax. Make sure to bring a DVD player and
your favorite discs for afternoons or storms. Always bring a book
along as well!
· Swimsuit and spa items. Even if you are not sure what to
expect, it is always better to be prepared than not on winter vacations!
Food and snacks:
You should do the preliminary food shopping before you leave, if
you are driving. You will especially want to get breakfast items
for the first day, lots of snacks, adult beverages, hot chocolate
packets, power bars, juice packs, and high protein snacks. Stuff
your pockets daily while on winter vacations! You will want something
to fuel you through just “one more run!”
