Women's outerwear
All
too often, women will go into a recreational winter weekend bundled
up in their street winter wear believing that it will be good enough.
But the truth is that in order to make your ski (or any other type
of winter outdoor sport) enjoyable, the proper outerwear is crucial.
Nothing will put an end to your enjoyment of winter sports quicker
than being uncomfortable in your clothing.
Dressing appropriately for winter sporting requires layers. The
key is to be kept both warm and dry and also to allow for adjustment.
You’ll want to peel off layers depending on your activity
level and the weather conditions.
Layering:
· Use thermal underwear as your base layer
· Select lightweight, insulating pants and tops for your
second layer
· For your third layer, select outerwear that is lightweight
and waterproof
The layers work together with your outerwear to create a tailored
climate for your body. Appropriate women’s outerwear is vital
as it protects you from the extreme elements on the trail. Because
of this, it is important to consider the fabrics that your outerwear
is made of.
Outerwear Fabrics:
· Some outerwear is made using polyester microfiber and
nylon blend that is woven very tightly. This type of outerwear is
usually more lightweight and can allow for greater mobility.
· Microfiber outerwear is durable and wind resistant.
· Take time to see what the outerwear is made of and also
what, if any, treatments the fabric has had.
· Choose waterproof fabric for your outerwear. Realize that
water-resistant and waterproof are not the same thing.
Consider the design features in your outerwear. Some features can
make a real difference in your comfort while out on the trail or
slopes. Make sure that zippers have big pull tabs so that you can
easily pull them open with gloves on. You’ll also want to
have pockets that are easily accessible for items you use often
like lip balm and camera.
