Even
buying Yamaha engine parts used can improve your new Yamaha engine.
You can find what you are looking for if you want something in the
range of 600 to 800 cc for the engine size. You want the new or
used part(s) you buy to benefit your snowmobile engine and suspension.
A used black and red VMAX is turning into a real trail screamer
with the addition of C&A Pro skis, a MBRP can, and a new 1"
Camoplast track with StudBoy studs.
In 1998 a Yamaha V-Max 700 XTC was discovered by a group of snowmobile
experts. The sled had had only one owner, was bought as a leftover,
and still had one year left on the warranty. A definite bonus on
any used sled. However, it had two, bent radius rods, and the skis
were bent on the sides. There was also some minor, cosmetic damage
to the cowl. But the engine was in top condition.
The Yamaha VMAX will always be a classic with a very strong stock
motor, it will not go out of style anytime soon. The VMAX we discovered
had an engine that like new.
The XTC-700 they found was exactly the type of snowmobile to find
for a project. It was a bone-stock, unmolested machine, with its
bulletproof, 700 cc, triple-cylinder engine, one of the best engines
on the market. In addition, the after-market folks have made a ton
of "Go Fast Parts" for the engine. Second this sled had
a great suspension system under it; sometimes this is more important
than raw horsepower. Some afternoons, these trails become very beat
up, for that reason, the long travel suspension was a huge plus.
The mechanics tackled the old, metal skis with plastic bottoms
riveted to the bottom. This is how it came from the dealer originally.
The team replaced the stock skis with a set of C&A Pro Plastic
Snow-Cross skis. Such aggressive skis have a large center keel to
aid in the performance and when it gets rough, this improvement
likely made the snowmobile better than the original on the showroom
floor! These skis weigh about half of what the stock skis weigh,
which is free horsepower when you remove weight. They were supplied
with a set of six-inch carbide runners, which help really carve
up the trails. If you want a less aggressive steering response,
you can cut a 45º angle to the end of the runners, and that
will help the skis turn easier.
Taking a lame dog of a sled, only a few years old was turned into
a dream ride. Once finished it would handle and run with the best
of the new sleds out there, likely even better. Repairs such as
these end up costing the owner less than a new sled would cost,
but will be tuned and modified into an all-around machine great
machine, with its new Polaris snowmobile parts, and with a sturdy,
reliable engine intact.
