Two snowmobile projects received support from the St. Louis County
Board of Commissioners Tuesday.
During a commitee-of-the-whole meeting, the seven-memberboard approved
sponsoring the maintenance of Lake Vermilion ice trails by the Vermilion
Penguins and Cook Timberwolves snowmobile club. The two clubs stake
trails across the frozen lake to allow for safe passage of snowmobiles.
The Penguins CLub proposal would be limited to Pike and Everett
Bays and the Timberwolves proposal limited to portages on the Vermilion
River.
The board also approved sponsorship of a proposes snowmobile bridge
over the Sturgeon River near the Riverside Supper Club at Side Lake.
The Pathfinders Snownobile Club of Hibbing and Chisholm is seeking
funding for the $100,000 bridge to improve safety from Chisholm
to the Taconite Trail.
County sponsorship of the snowmobile projects allows the participants
to apply for funding from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
Grant In Aid program.
