County snowmobile trails shut

Now you see 'em, now you don't.

After opening for the first time in weeks last Friday, Dane County snowmobile trails have closed less than a week later.

Parks Director Darren Marsh said recent warmer weather and heavy trail use have significantly reduced snow depths on the trail corridors, forcing the trails to shut down.

"Additional snowfall and below freezing temperatures will be needed before the trails can be reopened," Marsh said.

Cross country ski trails in Dane County remain open and are reported to be in good condition.
